Lymphocystis

What is lymphocystis?

This viral disease, also known as cauliflower disease because of how it manifests itself on the fish, usually enters the fish via areas of damage, although there is a possibility it might be contracted orally.

Although the symptoms of infected cells forming knobbly growths are most unsightly, the fish rarely seem unduly troubled by their presence, and the condition rarely results in death of the host fish.

How do you treat lymphocystis?

As the virus may be spread when the growths degenerate, it is wide to remove the fish to a quarantine facility until the condition finally clears. That process may take some time to achieve, but there is little more that the aquarist can do, other than wait for the virus to burn itself out while the fish forms its own resistance to reinfection.
