Ulcers
What are ulcers?
The causative bacteria associated with open ulcers will quickly expand and deepen the nature of an ulcer very rapidly, giving little time to administer any attempted cure for the condition. The scourge is highly infectious and will quickly spread to other previously perfectly healthy companion fish.
How do you treat ulcers?
The prevalence of this disease among carp species, in particular but not exclusively, makes the argument for having some form of separate quarantine and conditioning unit for new purchases a particularly relevant and strong one.
The problem appears to be able to remain dormant within a host fish, only breaking out when the resistance of the fish is reduced by some factor such as stress. Once the pathogens are released, however, they will quickly infect other fish.
If you’ve identified this disease on your fish, please call us and we will be
happy to talk through treatments with you.
